How to Prepare a Print-Ready File with 3mm Bleed
To ensure your printed products look great and are properly trimmed, please follow these detailed steps when preparing your file.
1. File Format
- File Type: PDF (Portable Document Format) is the preferred file type for submission.
- Scale: Ensure your document is created at 1:1 scale (actual size).
- No Password Protection: The file must not be password protected to allow for smooth processing.
2. Orientation
-
Format Orientation: The file’s orientation (portrait or landscape) must match your order selection. All pages in the PDF must follow the same orientation.
- Portrait Orientation: Short side at the top.
- Landscape Orientation: Long side at the top.
- Front/Rear Printing: If you are printing on both sides (double-sided), the sheet will be turned around its vertical axis (as you would flip the page in a book).
3. Fonts & Lines
- Minimum Font Size: To ensure legibility, the minimum recommended font size is 6pt. Fonts smaller than 6pt may not print clearly.
- Vector Lines: If you are using vector graphics (e.g., logos, illustrations), ensure that the lines are at least 0.25pt to maintain sharpness.
4. Margins & Bleed
- Bleed Area: For all small format printings (including A6, A5, A4, etc.), please include a 3mm bleed area on all sides. This ensures that the design extends to the edge after trimming.
- Margin: Keep text and important content at least 3mm away from the cutting border to avoid accidental clipping.
- No Bleed for Larger Formats: For print formats larger than A2, bleed is not required, but ensure there is a safe margin around your content.
5. Resolution
-
Optimal Resolution: To guarantee a high-quality print, use a resolution of 150 to 300 dpi (dots per inch) for all images and graphics.
- 150 dpi: Acceptable for larger prints or designs with less detail.
- 300 dpi: Recommended for small format prints (A6, A5, A4, etc.) to ensure crisp, sharp details.
6. Colours
-
Colour Mode: All files should be prepared in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) color mode. This is the standard for printing and ensures accurate colour reproduction.
- RGB or Pantone: Files received in RGB (Red, Green, Blue) or Pantone colours will be automatically converted to a CMYK color profile, which may alter colour accuracy.
7. Standard Sizes
Here are the standard sizes in millimeters (mm) for various print products and the formats they apply to:
- A0: 841 x 1189 mm (Large posters, banners)
- A1: 594 x 841 mm (Large posters, event displays)
